StockX

Years: 2015 - 2017Title: Design ConsultantProject: iOS, Android, Web, & Marketplace

After shutting down my first company, I had the opportunity to visit Detroit and attend Dan Gilberts portfolio company conference. While I was there, I met some of our old investors at Ludlow who introduced me to Josh Luber and Greg Schwartz. They walked me over to their office inside of Quicken Loans and told me about a company they were building called StockX. After coming back to NYC, I started working with the team remotely over nights and weekends. I came in and took an audit of the marketplace and started to prioritize work. We setup 1-on-1's with the rest of the team, created a shared dropbox folder, scheduled a weekly sync, and was always available on Slack and Zoom. We started by refreshing the iOS and Android apps, shipping updates along the way. When we were in a good spot, I put together some brand guidelines and moved onto the website. During this time, we completely redesigned the bid / buy / ask / sell experience and introduced new product categories like handbags, watches, and collectibles. Working closely with the top 5% of sellers, we designed new inventory management experiences and tools for them to scale their business. In order to better understand their workflow, I setup interview calls and watched them try to list dozens of items at a time, catching edge cases as we went.

The home screen and browse experience went through a dozen different iterations before we finally shipped a version we felt could scale with the addition of new product categories.
